Support for Service Families

At St Michael’s C of E Primary School in Helston, we are fortunate to have many Service children within our community, and our MKC group is an active and vibrant part of school life.  Children in EYFS, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two meet together regularly for our after‑school MKC club. Each session is different—ranging from indoor and outdoor games, parachute activities, crafts, and even occasional cooking sessions. We also host events throughout the year to come together as a community.

We are proud of our strong links with RNAS Culdrose, and we regularly welcome visitors and Service personnel who share their roles and experiences with the children. Each year, we participate in the British Legion Remembrance Day Parade in Helston, and as a whole school we respectfully observe the Freedom of Helston parade.

Military Kids Connect

MKC is a unique initiative created to support the children of Service personnel and Veterans. Members of MKC act as ambassadors and young advocates for Service families across the world. The initiative is proudly supported by The Royal British Legion.

Information about how to book this club is available from the school office.

Purple Ribbons

You can recognise pupils that are part of a military family by the purple ribbon they wear, designed to show pride in being part of a military family. Purple ribbon pin badges can be purchased via the school office.

Connected to the Culdrose Community Centre

We receive regular communication from the Culdrose Community Centre about events for service families, as well as support on offer and other initiatives that may be of interest. We relay all of this information directly to service families via email, so that you have the latest news.
