Extreme Reading

Any extra opportunity that children get to read is beneficial to their future academic success. Providing children with a broad range of books along with new and exciting opportunities to read will help promote and instil a love of reading and a wealth of knowledge.

Staff at St Michael’s are passionate readers and enjoy immersing themselves in a good book. It is a perfect opportunity to wind down, relax and enjoy the moment. This is promoted through our 'Book Swap' bookcase in the Junior Staffroom. We are committed to developing and promoting reading for pleasure at St Michael’s and encourage the children to share in this.

Extreme Reading is a celebration of children across the whole school reading in an ‘extreme place’. As you travel around the school, you can admire our displays in each of the workspaces. Some examples are children reading on a horse, on a skateboard, in a tree, in the shower and on top of a container!

The Extreme Reading Challenge is a great way to encourage reading at home, promote reading for pleasure and create strong home school links.

Where will your reading take you?

Key Stage 1

The children in Year 1 and 2 have had great fun engaging with Extreme Reading outside of school. As you can see, some of our children are very daring!
Key Stage Two

The children in Year 3 - Year 6 have been showing off their fun and daring places to read. Have you tried reading in any of these places? Can you be even more extreme?
